In 2023 we ran a Spawning School at JCU through the Cairns-Port Douglas Reef Hub, working with our friends at Reef Recruits. We trained First Nations rangers in rearing coral larvae after the annual spawning event and how this can be used to help with reef stewardship, as part of this project we also had a community day to share what we had been up to with the community. It was also great to have the team from Reef Cast with us to help document this project.
Over the past few years I’ve been involved in the Great Reef Census project with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef. Hear more about the project in this video taken by the nat geo team on one of the Great Reef Census expeditions to the far northern Great Barrier Reef. Check out the website for more information on how to get involved.
Watch my JCU TESS seminar that brings together all of the work from my PhD and from the JCU TropWATER Seagrass Ecology Lab on herbivory in GBR seagrass meadows.
Last year I participated in the Future Science Talks program to learn how to give a science comedy talk about my research, find out more and watch the video of my talk.
